How 1st Sem went

To begin, your's truly here is currently persuing a medical degree at IMU, Bukit Jalil. I just completed my 1st semester and am on a 1month long holiday. If you asked me how the 1st semester went for me? I would say only one word, AWESOME! haha alright maybe not that awesome but nonetheless something totally different from what I have been accustomed to in A levels and high school.

As i recall what I gone through the pass few months, one thing pops up immediately, that is ORIENTATION! You got to take my word for it, IMU's orientation would put must uni's in Malaysia one to shame. The level of bonding with our seniors, organisation and enjoyment is awesome. Orientation alone brought many sweet memories. From dry to wet ice breakers, treasure hunt to tele-match, variety night to finale night was a chronology of none stop fun and enjoyment. Orientation is defnitely something any freshie should never miss.

IMU practises a self-learning module. Which means we would have minimal lectures but lots of time to do self study and research. In my opinion, it totally diminishes the feeling of complaisancy, and that we would lose out in the long run if we do not take our own initiative to find out more. Not that it is a bad thing, but i sort of got to accustomed to the spoon feeding we get from out A levels lecturers. But in time, I should get used to it.

PBLs or problem based learning in short was fun. It helps guide us through our academic calender and stimulate thinking and research via its many triggers. Case studies were fun to begin with but the discussions helped me alot. Man, I hope I get good PBL group mates next sem. yes they reshuffle us every semester.

IMU has been going through alot of relocating and renovations. It should look much much better a few months time. And they do have aan awesome library. I really love the library and they have a cafe there just in case my tummy grumbles or if I require any injection of caffiene with its many specially brewed coffee.

Events held in IMU are frequents which makes the atmosphere very happening. Almost every week, there would be an event held at the atrium by many clubs. And of course, if u ask me wha does IMU have that all other Uni's do not have, it would be INFINITY MILERS! haha from my many post, it wouldn't be necessary to ellobarate.

First sem was about scaling the surface of all the 9 essential systems in the body ie CNS, CVS, Hemato, MSK, Repro, Endo, Respi, Renal and GI with biochem and genetics as well. but we still do not know pathology and drugs whici would be covered in next semester. Woohoo, can't wait to learn so many exciting new stuff.

So with enough said, 1st sem wasn't too bad for me, friends I made along the way and observing many interesting charactrers certainly thought me alot. But I wouldn't be contented with what I acheived and I shoudl be open to many ideas and posiibilities. With my instinctive will to explore and to try new things, and with god's grace I shall make it through and do well in exams..To Infnity and Beyond!!

Woohoo..I am running 20km tomorrow. Wish me luck!!

Missing Milers Already

Yes, I have a confession to make. Indeed I am obsessed over something. Something so extraordinary, nothing else seems to matter apart from my family and studies. Yes, i am already missing milers. I miss the Wednesday evenings we train together. The unbending bond and friendship we fostered together. Training on my own these holidays felt rather stale and boring. I need motivation, companionship and that relentless will to push myself and to seek improvement. I miss Milers.

Earlier this month on the 4th of Jan, we had a mini hike at Ulu Tranum Forest Reserve, Kuala Kubu Bharu. And this hike was sort of a tradition whereby the current committee passes down the club to us. Although I wasn't named into the 9 essential committee members, the milers spirit in me still burns ever so brightly. Simply because being part of this elite club certainly opened my eyes to many things in life. I was put in an endangering situation hiking up Gunung Batu Putih, I learned the value of friendship, leadership and perseverance. In all honesty, I have grown. And only at times of danger and hardship do we truly grow.

So if people would come up to me and ask me, why are you so committed to Infinity Milers? I would say, cause you only get to live life once. Initially, I joined the club with the intention of just giving myself a reason to run and exercise. An avenue to relieve my study stress. But little did I know, I was making a life changing decision. Infinity Milers changed my life. I would wholeheartedly say, being a Milers made me realize my potential. People often lament and focus on their imperfection but little do they know there's a potential to be great and to do great things in anyone. All we have to do is realize our potential.

Many things I have learned over the pass months with milers, I could relate to life. What is life? Is it a challenge, a journey, a resolve? I believe everyone is fighting their own battle. And we have got to be strong and uphold what we believe is right. Infinity Milers is my resolve, my chance to be a stronger better person. and to leap higher than I ever could.

So, ultimately, would I still continue being committed to Milers? Indeed I would and I will try my best to assist the new committee in passing down the rich heritage and tradition of the club to our juniors. I swear I will.

Runs and more Runs!

Ever been wondering what have i been doing the pass few sunday mornings? well if u r guessing sleep?? haha u would be right few months ago. so for those who were guessing i was running, thumbs up to you. yes ppl, if u have been staying tuned to my blog, you would know i am currently training ahead of 2 runs (klang pacers and mizuno wave)

klang pacers was 2 sundays ago.we had to meet at IMU at 4.30am!! that means me waking up at 3.30am. once we collected our yellow running vest, of we went in typical infinity milers fashion, a convoy of 10 cars streaming down the KESAS highway towards klang.

it's a 12km run which starts at 7am sharp at Stadium Suleiman and through the major highways and trunk roads of klang town and back to the stadium. since it was my first run, i found it pretty ok whereas season runners wound consider it easy peasy. oh well i done it in a time of 1hr and 25mins. not really amazing but a personal best for me.

Next up was mizuno wave run at Padang Merbok, KL (opposite lake garden). this time it's a 10km run of uphill and downhills. this time i done it with a time of 1hr and 11mins. not bad too. haha.

here's pics of our IMU runners

another group pic

at stadium suleiman after klang pacers run

what i learned from running is more than just moving ur legs and keeping fit.
it goes beyond that and everytime i run, i ask myself why do i run today?
it's simply because it's an experience worth going through.

"If you want to win a race, run a 100 metres"
"If you want to experience something, run a marathon"

Of Friday Night Climbs

Fridays oh fridays..thank god its friday..alright enough about the pun on fridays. Firdays for most ppl would be relaxation, as students end their gruelling week of studying, adults with their gruelling working hours during the weekdays. so when friday comes everyone is in a bouyant mood, ppl going home earlier hence the massive jam in the highways. Everyone is happy as they usher in the weekend.

Fridays for me on the other hand is very normal. during holidays, the usual mamak till late night, pool at AC or even the movies. but little did i noe when i entered IMU, Infinity Milers to be exact would i anticipate a FRIDAY NIGHT CLIMB. yes i am dead serious. hiking at NIGHT!! woohoo!! sound intruiging? intimidating, even ironic.
Nonetheless its all in the spirit of training for our next major hike. it's already marked down on my calender. Nov 7 to 10. its at tapah near kuala woh. and we would be scaling 2 peaks of Gunung Batu Putih. hence, training for night hiking is crucial.

so of we went in typical Infinity Milers fashion, a convoy of 11 cars as 36 ppl turned up for the hike. journey there was fairly jam free only when we reached jln gasing the roads for jammed infamously. anyhow, b4 even starting to hike, our convoy was broken into 4 groups due to the massive jam. the last 2 grps got lost whereas the 2nd grp with me, YH, and a few other cars taking a slight detour into Raju's to call our prez Ray Mun for direction. So what seemed to be a scheduled 7pm hike ended up to be an 8.45pm one. without much delays, we did our warmup and another pep-talk from our prez.

of we went into bukit gasing, the pitch black darkness of the forest. In single file we hiked with our head and hand held torches. the hike would have been easier if not for the muddy trial due to extensive rain and the darkness. after 1 hr 15 mins, we reached an opening where we could see a resevior and the huge night sight of PJ and KL. spirits were high as we thought we completed the climb in fairly easy fashion. up next was a road trial which led us to a village. and we asked the pakcik for direction, he directed us back into the jungle. haihz..we were like OH NO!! but in keeping up with IM's 3 C's which is NO COMPLAINING, NO COMPARING and NO COMPETING, off we were back into the jungle. and thank God we manage to get back to our cars by 11.30pm. any later than that and we would be in a slight fix.

the hike was one of my best to date, but i know Gunung Batu Putih would be tougher for sure. hence, more training will follow as I train my upper body strength and endurance. so that was how my last friday went..fairly unconventional but nonetheless priceless in it's own way. we ended our day with mamak at SS2 murni as we were only surviving on our lunch earlier.

Ciaoz..next up, my conquer of klang and mizuno wave run and of course the hike to Gunung Batu Putih peak, the 8th highest mountain in peninsula malaysia.

jeng jeng jeng...behold the front cover of jay chou's latest album. named muo jie zuo which means capricorn, jay's horoscope. the release date is today 15th of October, and this date has been marked in my calender months ago. and i booked my album few weeks ago. woo-hoo talk about being a loyal fan. but i can't collect my album till this friday cause of lectures and studies. but nonetheless i shall persevere and wait patiently till friday comes. haha..can't wait!!

from the reviews online, the album seems awesome. so ppl if u r a fan of R&B, pop folk, ancient chinese, ballads, rock and so on..listen to jay chou..cause he's all about variety and time and time again the songs he produce is so good u might think he's the God of music. Everything he produces is quality of the highest order and listening to his songs keep me happy and upbeat. it's definitely going to keep me well sane as i tackle med school. and the songs teach us about life and not just about love like most artist would sing about. GAN-ning off to Dublin

As promised this post is dedicated to a good friend of mine, Ganesan.
Me along with KT send him off thursday 2 weeks back. So gan if you'r reading, how r u doing over there in ireland wei. everything good apart from the crappy cold weather. u noe what? missing u is sth i kinda couldn't get to terms with despite it being 2 weeks already. well lives goes on they say but i can't help but revel in the past. Well we can learn from it if we really filter the positives. and one of my positives was certainly meeting and eventually becoming close friends with u. well u have to agree with me it was one hella of a yr and a half. college brought valuable lessons to me. and one of them was learning how to not let other put u down. sth i certainly learned from u. your motivation to pick ur pace and performance in A levels was clearly evidently. no doubt straight A's was well and certainly on its way towards u, the manner in which u attain it was brilliant. sth u definitely need in med school. so with ur drive and gile u showed massive improvement from sem 1 allthe way to sem3. i could see the steep incline in ur study performance. good on u dei. u certainly deserve the fruits u r reaping for ur hardwork.

Come to think of it, weren't me, u, tim, SJ the ppl who really got bday surprises a key highlight in HELP. i got it rolling with HY's bday in my place. and since then, a 100 percent record we would claim? haha..not too sure bout a few of the surprises but nonetheless we got lots of fun and bonding time organising it ya. it was certainly a pleasure working with u whether it was studies or unofficial stuff.

So with ur drive and gile, u could do anything. Terry Fox said he would complete a run across america to canada with one leg if he has to crawl to the finish line. remember that nothing can put a humans spirit down.and ur endeavours certainly paid off. an awesome scholarship and certainly u r well on ur way to greatness. well in my eyes u r a really nice pal to have. somebody whom u wouldn't mind sharing and also seeking for help. it might sound flattering but in all truth u did help me in alot of things. recall and u would agree with me.

So,we went for concerts together, outings, mamak and any thing that we planned or i invited u for. this shows how accomodating u r in making time with ur friends. u tend to give so much but ask so little. maybe that's y me and SJ, i told her we have to come out with sth, anything that would make u attain the happy, surprised and appreciated feeling u made possible for most of us.

For that u certainly deserve a hug and a pat on the back. Gan is gan-ning off to ireland but gan-ning back home in months time. so till then i hope u have a great study experience over there. just soak it all in. I am proud to be ur friend and proud of ur achievements. keep it going and improve. always seek to push yourself and improve. take good care of yourself and enjoy ur time there.

here and pics with me and our main star, Gan

this is what u do, lending a shoulder to lean on
